#3 - Being Rescued From a Fire

The main reason people enjoy being rescued from a fire is that people will use any excuse to be taken out of an unbearably painful and ultimately fatal situation and put into a better situation.  It is almost a fact that Nine times out of ten a person wants to be rescued from a bad thing.

That’s right: There’s nothing a person likes more than being rescued from a fire.  If there is a fire, and a person is there inside the fire, you can bet that the person will be saying something like, “Get me out of the fire!”  If you ever see a person in a fire—say, at a party—an easy way to break the ice is to rescue them from the fire.  Afterward, they will talk to you for 30 minutes about how much better not being in a fire is than being in one.  They have fires in Portland, Oregon.
